After the War for Southern Independence, the surviving Southern soldiers joined together to form a veterans organization known as the United Confederate Veterans (UCV).   The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) is the heir to this legacy.

Formed in Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic and non-political organization dedicated to insuring that a true history of the 1861 - 1865 period is preserved for future generations.

Today, programs are ongoing at the national, state, and local level.   In Alabama, we take particular interest in the preservation and marking of Confederate soldier's graves and sites of historic significance, publication of scholarly works, and attendance at regular meetings to discuss the military and political history of the period.   Alabama SCV members stand at the forefront of the fight to preserve the honor of the Confederate Soldier.

The SCV rejects any person or group whose actions tarnish or bring dishonor upon the Confederate soldier or his reason for fighting.   This particularly applies to those who would use our honorable flag as a symbol for their own dishonorable and hateful purposes.  There are many organizations who deceptively call themselves heritage groups.  Many of them are actually nothing more than hate groups besmirching the honor of our Confederate soldier ancestors and the flag for which they fought.  Coosa Cavalry Camp #2130 rejects those hate groups who wrap themselves in the Confederate Battle Flag and profess themselves to be a heritage organization.  If a potential member belongs to a hate group, it is our policy to advise that individual to look for another camp to join.
